Our versatile Cornish semi skimmed milk strikes the perfect balance between taste and nutrition, making it ideal for everything from your morning cereal and creamy coffee to baking fluffy cakes and creating smooth sauces. From our creamy Cornish whole milk to our perfectly balanced semi-skimmed milk, we transform high-quality milk into the most delicious dairy products. The farmers we work with are close to home, where cows eat lush Cornish grass on farms with higher standards, as standard. No wonder it tastes so good.
Our Cornish semi-skimmed milk comes from our own directly contracted farmers, all based within a 25-mile radius of our dairy. We are caretakers of the land; we and our farmers recognise the need to look after the environment for future generations.
Being stuck out into the Atlantic Ocean has shaped so much of Cornwall’s geography and it’s history. Storm systems sweep in on the jet stream, sucking up salts and nutrients from the sea and the mild coastal air forces the moisture to fall as rain. Deep river valleys and undulating uplands create a unique grass-growing landscape for dairy farming, which in turn creates the delicious flavour of our milk.

Our milk comes from a mix of dairy herds; Brown Swiss, Friesian, Holsteins and Jerseys. It is this teamwork between us and our farmers which ensures the cows have the right diet, care and attention to produce perfectly balanced milk every time.
Fun fact: In the early days Bill and Rachel Clarke had their own herd. They would bottle the milk once the children were in bed and deliver it early the next morning.

At Trewithen Dairy, we and our farmers are passionate about the health and welfare of the cows that produce the essential ingredient in all our great tasting dairy products – high quality, Cornish milk. The dairy farms that are contracted to supply Trewithen are all located within 25 miles of the dairy and we take great pride in the fact that we know each one of our farmers personally.
Although no two Trewithen Dairy farms are the same, all our farmers share a common set of values and comply with a comprehensive set of standards that ensure high levels of animal health, welfare and husbandry. We don’t produce organic milk. We work to a set of high standards called our Trew Farming commitment, which helps us to look after the pastures, herds and wildlife.
All our products are made from pasteurised milk, and suitable for pregnant women but always consult with a health professional if you are ever unsure.
Companies now queue up to tell you what they believe. But let us tell you what we actually do. We look after the land and it’s long-term health, we tread as lightly as we can, we farm for the future; we and all our dairy farmers are signed up to, and happy to be judged by, these more than rigorous benchmarks. Trew farming is better farming, with higher standards. As standard.
They crush down perfectly just as they are and can be left with your council recycling collection. The lids can be recycled too.
Semi-skimmed milk is produced by skimming off some of the cream from the milk, to lower the overall fat content. Regular semi-skimmed milk contains 1.6g of fat per 100ml, which is just under half the fat level of whole milk (which contains a minimum level of 3.5% fat). Â Semi-skimmed milk contains around 1.8% fat and is traditionally marketed in green packaging in the UK.
Our Trewithen Dairy Cornish semi-skimmed milk contains 48 calories per 100ml, compared to 65 calories per 100ml in whole milk and 35 calories per 100ml in skimmed milk. This makes it a middle ground option for those looking to reduce calories without going to fully skimmed milk.
All varieties of milk, including whole, semi-skimmed, 1% fat and skimmed, contain similar amounts of protein, and most vitamins and minerals. Removing some or most of the fat from milk doesn’t affect levels of protein or most vitamins and minerals. Semi-skimmed milk actually contains slightly more calcium than whole milk because the calcium is found in the watery part of milk, so by removing some fat, the overall proportion of calcium is increased.
If you’re trying to reduce your fat intake but find the leap from whole milk to skimmed milk too much straight away, then semi-skimmed milk can be a useful compromise. It allows you to reduce your fat intake from teas, coffees, hot chocolates and cooking, without feeling like you’re sacrificing too much creamy flavour.
Semi-skimmed milk is perfectly balanced for every recipe and family need – it’s lower fat than whole milk while maintaining the creamy consistency and full flavour, making it a must-have for hot drinks, baking and so much more.
