Best Cornish Unsalted Butter - Trewithen Dairy

Cornish Unsalted Butter

Our unsalted butter is churned from Cornish cream and features the same luxuriously smooth texture and distinctive buttercup yellow colour as our salted butter. We transform the highest quality milk into the most delicious dairy products using natural ingredients. All of it tastes amazing because of how we make it, what goes into it, and why: it’s a serious business and no less than you’d expect.

Deliciously Creamy

Our creamy unsalted butter is as deliciously rich as it looks. Thickly spread on a fresh saffron bun or soak slowly into hot toast.

We’re not sure if it’s the luxuriously smooth texture, the buttercup yellow colour, the rich flavour or the fact that it’s churned using Cornish cream that makes our Cornish unsalted butter so special.

Trew Cornish Dairy

At Trewithen Dairy, we and our farmers are passionate about the health and welfare of the cows that produce the essential ingredient in all our great tasting dairy products – high-quality, Cornish milk. The dairy farms that are contracted to supply Trewithen are all located within 25 miles of the dairy, and we take great pride in the fact that we know each one of our farmers personally.

Although no two Trewithen Dairy farms are the same, all our farmers share a common set of values and comply with a comprehensive set of standards that ensure high levels of animal health, welfare and husbandry. We are caretakers of the land; we and our farmers recognise the need to look after the environment for future generations.

FAQs

Learn more about our Trewithen standards and delicious products.

What are the Trewithen trew farming standards?

Companies now queue up to tell you what they believe. But let us tell you what we actually do. We look after the land and it’s long-term health, we tread as lightly as we can, we farm for the future; we and all our dairy farmers are signed up to, and happy to be judged by, these more than rigorous benchmarks. Trew farming is better farming, with higher standards. As standard.

Are Trewithen products pasteurised and suitable for pregnant women?

All our products are made from pasteurised milk, and suitable for pregnant women but always consult with a health professional if you are ever unsure.

Can I buy Trewithen products for my shop, cafe or restaurant?

Please contact our team on 01208 228700 or email hello@trewithendairy.co.uk and we’ll be happy to help.

Are your cows grass fed?

As part of the Trew Farming commitment, all our farmers cows must be provided with a minimum of 120 days per year of grazing in the pastures and many of our farmers achieve in excess of this. This is independently audited as an extension to the existing annual Red Tractor audit. When the weather is inclement and cows are housed inside, locally grown forages make up a high proportion of their diet.

Can I substitute salted butter for unsalted butter in recipes?

Both salted butter and unsalted butter can be used interchangeably in any recipe, but if the recipe calls specifically for unsalted butter, it’s probably because the recipe has been tested with it and is preferred for that particular recipe.  If you only have salted butter, you can reduce the recipe’s salt by about half when substituting. You can add about 1/4 teaspoon of salt per half cup of butter to convert unsalted butter to salted.

Does unsalted butter last as long as salted butter?

Because salt is a preservative, salted butter tends to last longer than unsalted butter.  However, the amount of salt in salted butter isn’t standardized, so it varies across brands and can even vary from batch to batch within the same brand.

If a recipe doesn’t specify which type of butter to use, which should I choose?

Generally, you should use unsalted butter. You can always add salt to your unsalted butter, but you can’t take it out if you want it less salty!
